Messy Play<\/h4>\n

Messy (or Sensory) Play, or sensory play, is play during which children of all abilities and ages. With materials necessary to all the senses. With their natural curiosity and drive, they freely explore and experiment in a safe environment. In their own way and in their own time, and guided by themselves alone. This kind of play is of course nothing new, we as adults did not discover it. Moreover, it is the natural way of playing for children, who have always wanted to play with all their senses. So many other materials of nature were generously available around them like soil, mud, clay etc.<\/p>\n

It is precise because all the senses are functioning that the child\u2019s brain receives sensory stimuli that are essential for its complete development. As, for example, the child dips his hand into his fruitcake, paints his whole body, or wades through any water puddle. He finds on his way, the sensory receptors in the skin, combined with the other senses, form a complete picture, which allows the brain to gradually build up a more complete sense of himself and the world around him. This play, of course, often leads to what we see as \u201cchaos\u201d, but this chaos is the result of children\u2019s quests and if we knew what opportunities we were depriving them of, we would understand how unfair it is not to allow it, not to encourage it, not to challenge it\u2026!<\/p>\n
